Physical Education is crucial to the all-round development of children. As such we have a part time specialist PE teacher who acts as PE Coordinator and oversees the delivery of all Sport & PE at school. The PE curriculum includes skill development in gymnastic activities, dance, games, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities and swimming. We use our school hall, playground and excellent school field for all our activities. All children in KS1 & KS2 have 2 hours of PE a week with Reception class having 1 hour of scheduled PE and over 2 hours of informal physical activity through play per week.
Children are challenged with progressively higher tasks as their age, strength and skills increase. They are encouraged to plan and perform skills safely, showing increasing control and accuracy. They are taught how to get out and put away any equipment they use and the necessary safety precautions during PE lessons.
Harston & Newton Community Primary School is also a member of the South Cambs Schools Sports Partnership and as such can draw on the expertise of specialist staff alongside our own teachers to improve the quality of our provision in this area.
In addition to PE lessons we also have regular inter-house sporting competitions and a very full extra-curricular programme of clubs and competitive fixtures across a number of sports.
(As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic we also have a large number of remote learning activities and resources available via the link to the "Remote Learning" section below.)
