Home Learning Guidance

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your continued support during this challenging circumstance.  Each child has been given a Writing/Topic Home Learning book and a Maths Home Learning book.  We recommend the following activities for children to complete each day to maintain their learning stamina and reinforce key skills.  This should not exceed 1 to 1.5 hours per day.

  • Reading - Children to continue with the daily 10 minute reading task.  Please visit Oxford Owl eBook library (link provided below), Cambridgeshire Library or other reading materials available at home.  Please encourage your child to write a short paragraph to review the books they have read.
  • Maths - Children to work through activities available on Mathletics.  Their login details are inside their Maths Home Learning book.  In addition, the link for children to practise Times Tables and Weekly arithmetic practice are also included below.
  • Spelling - Children need to continue learning their spellings from the Year 3 and 4 list.  If your child still needs to consolidate previous spellings, the list for Year 1 and 2 is also included below.
  • Topic projects/practical ideas - Your child can choose, depending on individual's interests.  We have included the ones from the previous terms as well for you to choose.

We will update the class page with new home learning tasks as appropriate.  In the meantime, we thank you again for your understanding.

Best wishes,

Opal class team

Termly Focus

Maths - We will be using formal written methods to multiply and divide numbers this term.  In addition, we will be practising all 12x table facts.

English - We have been learning about stories with historical settings, with the emphasis on the Romans.

Science - We are learning about how sounds are made and conducting related experiments.

Topic - We are learning about the Romans and their contributions to life in Britain.

Art/DT- We will be exploring the designs of Roman shields and build Roman aqueducts.

Here is a link to files of the songs that children have been rehearsing for a concert - you might want to sing along!
